I’ve said it since I saw this all bubbling up 10-15 years ago. Equality isn’t good enough for them. Nor is equity or opportunity or even advantage. They want complete control and revenge. Not for something that happened to them but for something they’ve been told is happening to them. They’ve been handed shackles and when they put them on themselves they beam about being told how splendid they now look in their beautiful new bracelets. If you have a spine, this is the time to start using it.

This holds true for the feminists, too. Never before have so many senior-level management positions been held by females, and at no time before have more women been represented in white-collar professions, their compensation in terms of salary or even hourly wage been on an equal par with their male counterparts.
Yet, even a cursory review of posts on LinkedIn reveals a narrative of female oppression, despite the number of firsts for women. The gender gap vis-a-vis earnings is an easily debunked myth, yet the myth persists and is preserved.
I used to be a super sports fan, especially baseball. I love baseball. But massive overlap of Team Woke-Team Covid Venn Diagram has been so disappointing.
I was eagerly watching the first ball game of the pandemic-shortened season. A great matchup, Yankees at Nats (Nationals Stadium is a splendor, architecturally, and anchors a newly revitalized neighborhood of DC), future HOFer Max Scherzer is on the bump, he goes into his windup and... a BLM graphic is suddenly superimposed upon the back of the mound. I literally went numb.
I only watched long enough to see 2-hitter Giancarlo Stanton smack a ball all the way to Anacostia and then I turned it off. I've been ambivalent toward almost all sports since.
I'm getting antsy this year for the O's, I must admit. This would be a difficult habit for me to kick. Mrs. Pi's a good sports fan, frankly, but we both have soured on the messaging. It's not just the halftime show but the commercials, the music, and the clearly-targeted audience despite what I have to believe is their much more meager purchasing powers - which is supposed to be the goal of advertising.
I even had a pretty big dustup with my brother in law about Kapernick, since you've referenced him. He insisted that the only reason he wasn't back in the league was because of racism. I countered that even Michael Vick made it back into the league. When he was 34 and a ghost of the player he was 5 years prior. "Know why? Because he could still play. If Kapernick could play ball, he would be."
But even he chose to channel his energies into being a victim when he basically won the Genetic Lottery: tall, athletic, not unattractive (I'll reserve judgment), and a millionaire at 25. He instead chose to wear the Pig Socks and pretend he'd been a victim all along.
I think you're right. I might have to abstain. I'm going to wince every time I'm watching and I have to endure yet another woke declaration.

I get that. I grew up with dual allegiances to the Cubs (National League), my late father's team, hence, mine – especially when cable was finally available in our little burgh...then, it was daytime baseball games on WGN. The thirty years I lived in Chicago, I could hardly wait for opening day, even IF I had to wear a freaking parka to Wrigley Field.
Dad also believed in supporting the local teams, so we had season tickets to see the Minnesota Twins until we moved to Iowa – by the time we moved back to Minnesota, they were too expensive, and by then Dad was fixated on a boat.
PS: Mrs. Pi took me to Wrigley for my birthday in 2019. It felt like I was in European Cathedral. Singing "Take me out to the Ball Game" with 45,000 of my new best friends was awesome.
As great as that undoubtedly was, it was even better when Harry Caray could lead it, mostly coherently!
When he had that stroke and collapsed on the dugout steps in Miami, everyone knew that he would be leaving us soon, and that even if he should miraculously recover, he would never regain his form.
I wish I could like this article ten times over. This is what I was screaming when everyone was having fits about the "black national anthem": "The answer lies in you refusing to lend your time, and your financial resources to the advancement of the woke agenda through its pro sports entertainment proxies."
Well, I said it something like this: "Stop paying for this shit, you dimwits, and it will go away on its own." But you said it much more nicely.
But then again, one of my husband's biggest selling points as a mate was that he never watches sports. Neither do I. I made a major faux pas getting the in-laws together for birthdays last Sunday because it was the Super Bowl and I didn't even realize it. So I can't really speak. They weren't getting my money to begin with.
A bit of irony, I wonder why we're never told the NFL and the NBA have to "look like us"? *taps chin thoughtfully*

This largely summarizes my feelings.

The Cubs were my fave NL team because WGN came in our basic cable c1983.
We went Orioles Opening Day in 2019 an it was 37° at first pitch.
It's difficult – not impossible – to enjoy an ice-cold (actual ice not needed) Old Style, in such conditions...but I persevered.
Old Style. Nice.
At least you know they'll stay warm.

Tell me about it!

I used to sing along when I watched on TV.
PS: I _hate_ the DH.

"'Stop paying for this shit, you dimwits, and it will go away on its own.'"
Thank you, for the kind words – but I prefer the non-diplomatic approach – it is elegant in its brevity!

Excellent point!
